Sheriff BudgieBot

WANTED: CLOUD WASTE

Sheriff BudgieBot is rounding up the usual suspects.

Idle and oversized AWS resources keep billing you whether anyone uses them or not. CloudBudgie tracks them down, shows what each one costs and why it was flagged, and helps you fix it—directly in AWS or through a pull request your team reviews.

Wild West wanted poster. Sheriff BudgieBot, a blue budgie in a cowboy hat, sheriff badge, red bandana, and handlebar mustache, points at a panicked server running off with a $247/month price tag. Reward: lower cloud bills.
The $247/month on the poster is an illustrative example, not a customer result.

The most wanted

Five usual suspects behind wasted AWS spend. CloudBudgie shows the estimated monthly savings for each one it finds.

  • The Idle Drifter

    Low-utilization EC2 instances

Wanted for: CPU and network activity stay low for days at a time, but the instance bills for every hour it runs.

Sheriff’s orders: CloudBudgie flags the instance with its utilization and estimated savings. Stop it directly in AWS after you confirm, and start it again whenever you need it.

  • The Unattached Stranger

    Detached EBS volumes

Wanted for: A volume left behind after its instance is gone keeps paying storage charges every month.

Sheriff’s orders: CloudBudgie finds detached and barely used volumes. Delete them in AWS, or have BudgieBot open a pull request that removes them from your IaC. Deleting a volume is permanent.

  • The Ghost Town Balancer

    Idle load balancers

Wanted for: A load balancer with no traffic still charges by the hour, roughly $16–32 a month each.

Sheriff’s orders: CloudBudgie spots load balancers with no traffic over the analysis period. Delete them directly or through a reviewable IaC pull request.

  • The Big Iron

    Oversized RDS databases

Wanted for: A database sized for a peak that never came keeps billing for capacity it does not use.

Sheriff’s orders: CloudBudgie recommends a smaller instance class based on observed utilization, and flags idle databases you could stop. Rightsizing can be applied directly or through an IaC pull request.

  • The Back-Road Gateway

    Inactive NAT gateways

Wanted for: A NAT gateway charges about $32 a month in hourly fees, even when no traffic passes through it.

Sheriff’s orders: CloudBudgie finds NAT gateways with no observed traffic. Delete them directly or through a reviewable IaC pull request.

How the sheriff works

  1. 1.

    Track them down

CloudBudgie scans your connected AWS accounts for waste across EC2, EBS, RDS, VPC, and more.

  2. 2.

    Show the evidence

Each finding comes with its estimated monthly savings and the usage data behind it, so you can see why it was flagged.

  3. 3.

    Bring them in

Apply supported fixes directly in AWS after you confirm, or have BudgieBot edit your Terraform or CloudFormation and open a pull request.

  4. 4.

    Keep the peace

As your AWS environment changes, CloudBudgie keeps checking for new savings opportunities.

IaC changes are never auto-applied. BudgieBot does not merge pull requests or deploy them; your team reviews, merges, and deploys through your existing workflow.

How IaC pull requests work

A sheriff you can trust

  • Built for AWS

CloudBudgie focuses on AWS, with optimizations across EC2, EBS, RDS, VPC, Lambda, S3, and more.

  • Keep 100% of what you save

Pricing is based on optimization evaluations, never a percentage of your AWS spend or savings.

  • Read-only discovery

Find savings without granting permission to change anything in your AWS environment.

  • You decide every change

Nothing changes in AWS until you confirm it, and IaC changes arrive as pull requests your team can review, edit, or close.
